World Famous Golf Courses
Golf fans around the world work very hard year-round just to
get away on vacation for a couple of weeks and visit some of
the world's most famous golf courses. Not all of these courses
are open to the public, but all of them are lavishly beautiful
with their rolling fairways and high-class prestige.
The Country Club
Located in the USA, inside the city of Brookline,
Massachusetts, The Country Club is a beautiful course with
small greens and gorgeous tree-lined fairways. The course
itself is over 100 years old and was the host of the Ryder Cup
Championship in 1999.
St. Andrews
The St. Andrews golf course (old course) is located in St.
Andrews, Scotland. This amazing golf course is totally treeless
as it sits on the east coast of Scotland. Considered to be
highly challenging, this public golf course has a greens fee of
approximately $125.00.
Pine Valley
The Pine Valley golf course is located in the in the city of
Clementon, New Jersey (USA). Built in the year 1918, Pine
Valley has the traditional look and atmosphere of the old days.
It also has the highest slope rating throughout the entire
country, a 153 to be exact.
National Golf Links of America
An American Classic, the National Golf Links of America
course is a private golf course that is just off the shores of
Peconic Bay in Long Island, New York.
Oakmont Country Club
Oakmont Country Club maintains a private golf course that is
deep with a great history of competitive golf games. It is
located in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
Augusta
Located in Augusta, Georgia, this golf course is probably
the most famous of all of the golf courses located in the
United States. Probably the greatest amateur golf player
of all time, Bobby Jones helped design and create this course.
The Augusta course is private and considered to be very
exclusive.
Cypress Point Club
Located at Pebble Beach, California, the Cypress Point Club
offers an amazingly beautiful seaside golf course that proves
to be a great challenge to many golf players. This course is
private.
Winged Foot Golf Course
This private golf course was designed and built in 1923 by
the famous A. W. Tillinghast. Located in Mamaroneck, New
York, the Winged Foot Golf Course requires a high level of
skill in terms of accuracy, as it provides extremely narrow
fairways that are lined by thick, high trees.
Royal Birkdale
Famous for its humongous sand dunes, the Royal Birkdale golf
course is a private facility that was used for the 1998 British
Open. This course is located in Southport, England.
Ballybunion
The old Ballybunion golf course is located in Ballybunion,
Ireland, and is a classic, timeless course. It is open to the
public and costs approximately $75.00 to enjoy a day on the
green.
Merion Golf Course – East
Located in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, the Merion Golf Course has
a beautiful parkland-style design to it. This course was the
playing field for a great number of PGA tournaments throughout
the 20th century.
Shinnecock Hills
Shinnecock Hills golf course is a private course that
maintains an antique-style, windswept layout, that speaks
volumes beauty which is easy on the eyes. This course is
located in Southhampton, New York.
Turnberry, Ailsa Course
A truly historic course, the Turnberry Ailsa Course is a
public facility that charges approximately $150 to play. It is
located in Turnberry, Scotland.
Baltusrol Golf Club
The Baltusrol Golf Club maintains a private golf course that
was built by A. W. Tillinghast in 1895. With tree-lined
fairways and magnificent greens, the Baltusrol Golf Club was
home to a large number of PGA competitions throughout the 20th
century.
Pebble Beach
Located in Pebble Beach, California, the Pebble Beach course
is considered to be the most legendary golf course in the
United States. The view of the Pacific Ocean is so breathtaking
as you play through Pebble Beach that it is easy to lose
concentratrion on the game. It is a public course that also has
a resort. The greens fee is approximately $300 to play.
Royal Melbourne
If you are ever traveling through the great lands of
Australia, stop by Melbourne and visit the Royal Melbourne golf
course. It has been described as both beautiful and treacherous
at the same time. It is a private course that is rated as
Australia's finest.
Muirfield
Located in Scotland, golf's motherland, the Muirfield course
was built in the city of Gullane. As beautiful and
breathtaking as this golf course is, it is equally as
difficult. The Muirfield course is a private
facility.
Pinehurst Country Club # 2
Located at a wonderful resort in Pinehurst, North Carolina,
anyone with a few hundred dollars to pay the greens fee can
enjoy a day playing golf at this pine-laden golf course.
Olympic Club Lake Course
Despite it's name, there is no water that comes into play at
the Olympic Club Lake House course. Located in San Francisco,
California, this course is private and is said to be a true
test of any golf player's skills.
Carnoustie Championship Course
Another legendary golf course that comes from golf's
motherland of Scotland, this course was partly designed by
legendary golfer, Old Tom Morris. A public course that costs
less than $100 to play, it was the site of the British Open in
1999.
